Our Trip to New Bern!

Les and I went to New Bern to visit my cousins Terry and Beverly. (dog kin) 🙂 is what Terry says we are…That means distant cousins through my Grandma Delk!

We started out early yesterday morning….Stopped at Biscuitville for a biscuit!

Headed down to Snow Hill to visit with Marlene and Ms Dixie…They have one of the Abilene Drover puppies his name is Tucker! He is doing great!  Happy to see me too!:)

We had a nice visit…

Marlene and Ms Dixie farm and raise Dorper Sheep. They have quite a range of critters! Sheep, Cats, Dogs, Horses, Mules, Ducks, Chickens, Turkeys and Goats!  They have a lovely place and all the animals are so well taken care of! I LOVE to visit! 🙂 Marlene and her Mother Dixie are very special people!

We came home with shelled pecans (Yum!) Fresh eggs, and my very favorite! See the Photos:

Too soon our visit was over and we headed on to my cousins home.

They live in Clarks (near New Bern) on what they call Clay Hill! 🙂 Seems I cannot SEE the hill but there is clay soil!:)

Terry’s Daddy Charles Prevost was born in Randolph County (Jackson Creek) and left as a very young man and found his way to Elizabeth City NC and married a sweet lady and they had several children and adopted many more and raised their very large family in Clarks.

As Les and I turned down their road I remembered the first time I ever saw Terry’s home place some 30 odd years ago…The old place with new vinyl and updates still looked the same in many ways…

I remember Grandma and Aunt Grace and myself going down that old sand road into the pine forest that led to the warm friendly home of my cousins parents.  It was a hot July day and we had been invited to dinner (lunch) and we were made very welcome… and sat down to a family hearty meal of the best creamed corn and sliced tomatoes and biscuits I think I had ever eaten ! I know there was lots more on that family table to eat… for it was filled with food. But the corn and tomatoes are in my memory! I also remember Miss Goldie all dressed up and seated at the table in her place and the beautiful china and wonderful talk of family…We had a fine fine day of it!

Les and I turned in at Terry and Beverly’s and were met by our cousins in the yard! We visited and had a great time!

Latter we all went out to eat and then back for more visiting …Les and I arrived home around 10:30 PM tired… but very happy with the day of visiting…
