Drover’s Stockdog Journal… 5-12-14

We have a new field fenced for the sheep. It is about 3 acres behind the dam. It includes a patch of woods.

Drover and I put the sheep in there of the morning and close the gate. Late evening we go back and Drover gathers the sheep and we put the sheep in the field in front of the house for the night.

This evening we went down at dusk. The sheep were in that patch of woods. Drover could not see them, nor could I…I only could hear the soft tinkle of their bells. I opened the gate and sent Drover on an “Away”! He went wide and to the left slowly and was having to leap over the tall grass to see. He kept on his “away” and into the woods. Then he found the sheep. All I could do was hear his progress. Slowly and carefully he gathered the sheep out of the under brush and woods …he brought the sheep to the gate. I opened it and into the field they came… calmly, all of them with Drover behind them!!!

What a good amazing sheep dog!!!!
