Drover’s Stock Dog Journal…

Today we did a lesson with Dan and Buddy…Buddy is a rescue Black and Tan English Shepherd. They did great! Off leash for the first time for the whole lesson. This included large field large flock work, pen work, away and come bye and driving! Dan and Buddy are fast becoming a good team!  I am proud of their work!

Drover helped as needed (but I did hear a grumble about not being needed much!) 🙂

The last work we did was for Drover to drive the sheep across the large field which he did nicely at least one half of the way to the field behind the dam.

When we finished …I got busy with supper and decorating the Shepherd’s Cabin and did not notice it was dark!

I took my lantern and walking stick called Drover and down we went to the far fields! It was dark and I could not see the sheep. We were behind the dam…But I could hear the bells off on the far hill side past the dam . So I sent Drover into the night and trusted him to bring the flock to me. I heard him (by the bells moving slowly towards me) bringing the sheep. It took a few minutes and here he came quietly and carefully with our flock!

Amazing!

We took the sheep to the big field and shut the gate!

I counted the sheep all were there!

Good Job Drover!

We have a nice litter out of Abilene and Drover they are 3 weeks old this Thursday! There are a few male puppies left. If you are looking for a good all round English Shepherd…This might be the right litter for you. (I am keeping a puppy out of this litter! call me 336-241-2817 or email me at maplegrovefarm@yahoo.com

Merry Christmas!
