Powerless…

WOW!we had a real storm this evening.

Dark sky, lightening, thunder, wind, and rain by the buckets!

I arrived home in time to shut windows! (my Grandma taught me better than to go off an leave the windows open) BUT!  I did it anyway!

I made it thru the house shutting windows and doors…Then as I came back down the hall towards the kitchen the wind was blowing in there! What in the world?  So I hurried and shut the carport door…and then realized the wind was straight out of the south! Blowing rain into my living room! We have casement windows and it is pretty hard for rain to blow in…But not this evening!

I rolled in the windows and wiped up the rain…

And it was a bad storm…Soon the power was out!

But it did not last real long and I turned dogs out afterwards…Les walked out and said the power lines were down! “What?” Oh my goodness the power line was down and blown within 20 feet of our home!  NOT GOOD! I put the dogs in the basement! and I called the power company and they said some one would be out soon.

In about 45 minutes we had help… It took the power company 3 hours to get things fixed.

The guys worked hard cutting the fallen tree and fixing the power line.

Seems the neighbors had lost a big Maple tree several storms back and now the middle one is down and fell on the power line. Odd thing was it pulled our wires loose from the transformer (the end of the lines)

All ended well. The power company was nice and got the job completed …But they did have to work.

I gave the guys a piece of homemade cake, Aunt Peggy’s special pickles , corn chips and of course a cold Pepsi!

In the mean time Les and I sat and watched the mist rise over the pond, (it was still cloudy) a light cool breeze was up… we listened to frogs, crickets and such. It reminded me of being a girl on the farm and how it was back then when people did not have night  lights and such…The whole countryside was dark and quiet …peaceful and beautiful.

Kinda nice being powerless!!! 006
