Sheep Shearing Rain In May…

Grandma use to say “well this is a sheep shearing rain in May!”  I would ask her what that meant…

She would say…Every year they sheared the sheep in May…and shortly afterwards there would be a cold rain, and a short cold spell.

Well we are experiencing the Sheep Shearing Rain in May!

Some folk say it is the Blackberry Rain in May…Coincides with the blackberries blooming.

My sheep have shed their winter coats! and that cold rain is here!

I had to smile as I thought of this today…

Les and I went to Ken Treadways today…a long time friend and horse trader (since he was 12 years old)  We asked Ken his age and he said it was an unlisted number! Ken is as strong and hard working as he was in his 20’s…he is tough as nails, and a good trader of horses…Honest and fair and all ways a good friend…

I enjoyed our time trading…

And it felt good to be back in the saddle even if it was a short ride!

Ken has sold many a good horse and knows horses like no one I have ever met. And he has a heart for the horse. He trades them but he loves each and every one and remembers them (I think he has a special 6th sense and it is for horses)! Rodeo is his business and horses are his love.

He told this lady one time that a particular horse was “up in the bridle” …She asked me what that meant. I said “Not sure but I know it is not good and a warning” The lady took the horse and soon as we could we saddled him and went riding. It was late evening. We had to go thru a gate and I got off and opened it. The chain fell out of my hand and that horse went into some sort of up in the air dance, well that lady was no match for that and soon enough she was on the ground. (unhurt mostly)  I looked at her and I said ” I guess you know what Ken meant when he said this horse is up in the bridle”  Yes! she said “It will throw you off”  well that one did throw her sort of… she still missed the meaning;-)  but… Ken had been honest and up front with her …

We had an awesome day today…Rain, Memories, Horses and a Ghost or two…
