My Heart is Broken…

Today we laid my sweet girl Montanna to rest beside Amarillo.

She lost her long time valiant battle with Hip dysplashia.

In the last two days she was unable to walk with out my help and was starting to suffer with the pain.

Montanna was 13 years 1 month and 7 days old.

She was an excellent horse back riding companion with over 3000 hours logged with my horses on the trails. At six she started to show signs of the hip dysplashia and we no longer rode the trail together.

Her sight was all but gone (cataracts) and her hearing was as well…She lived as she pleased, and did what she liked… up till the end…

Three years ago we took a pack in trip at Mt Rogers on horse back… and Montanna went too. Actually Les brought her each evening to our camping site and she would stay at the camp all night, lay round the fire, and then sleep with us in the tent. In the morning she would be picked up by Les and spend the day with him and then the night with me!  WE had a great time.

Many of the places Montanna went trail riding:

Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, VA (four full summers of fun)

Uwharrie National Forest Recreation Area, NC

Croft State Park, SC

Brickhouse, Sumter National Forest , SC

Here at home in Jackson Creek, NC.

Montanna taught all my puppies to respect their elders!  Not sure who will fill that position!

She loved to catch a stick and play with the water hose! Last week she was playing slowly, but still playing with the water from the hose!

She was all ways cheerful, sweet , pleasant, friendly, and ready! Even at the end.

Rest in peace… my sweet girl…I will forever remember you, and that special place in my heart… while empty with your absence…Is full of all the love, time, fun, that we spent together.

I am sure God has a JD Gator for you to ride in heaven…Lord knows how you loved to ride the gator and was all ways at my side in that right front seat with me!

She lived a long and wonderful life because of you and Les. Great memories for sure. Hugs my friend.

So sorry for your loss. She was an incredible dog. I have tears while writing this. She looks like my ten year old aussie, Ruby. Ruby does not have hip issues, yet. But she also does not have the incredible mileage Montanna had. My question to you if you choose to answer is how did she go blind and pass at such a young age? I am new to this site and I am not informed to my satisfaction about these dogs. I must read further on the site. Just wanted to let you know I was thinking of you and Montanna. thanks, Pat in Prescott Valley, Az
P.S. I have a rescue aussie also who is ten and diabetic and blind, but she is a trooper. She keeps up with us no matter what we are doing. Her time is short I am afraid. I have given her a loving and wonderful home for the past years.
