Early Morning Farm Work…

When Drover and I put the sheep up last evening we looked for the two horses in the pasture with the sheep. I did not see them and I asked Les if he had seen them and he said yes… off and on yesterday. I had an uneasy feeling but thought it had to be okay.

At 3:30 AM I was woke by BOO having a barking fit with something. And Tuff my horse neighing at something across the pasture.

Oh NO! The horses had to be out and I jumped up and pulled on my boots grabbed a flashlight some horse feed and a halter!

Les was with me and we took off on the gator, after putting all the dogs up. (No we do not use dogs to catch horses)

We looked all over. We saw a real big skunk at the neighbors! No horses and No sign of them…(that tale tale road apple droppings) and No wet grass paths.

We looked for two hours. The stars were beautiful and bright and then the fog started rolling in about 5:30 AM.

We finally figured where the horses had gone. Across to the woods and within a fence (one that belongs to the neighbor) And they were not likely to be able to get in trouble till morning.

So we crawled back into bed and slept a while.

Les found our two party horses when he went down about 7:00 AM. They were at the neighbors like I thought. He caught them and brought them home.

They will not be allowed back in that pasture!

It was amazing to be out on our farm at that time of morning! We did loose sleep but it was well worth it!

The air was so clean and fresh. The sky full of stars. Amazing!

Oh and Ms BOO ended up helping us. She ran out another skunk with out a smell of a problem. She was helpful looking in the woods for the horses. We needed a dog to look for but not gather the horses. BOO was our right hand going in places we dared not go.

I love the farm life!
